Some Tips ‘n Tricks

Some ‘hidden’ features that can make life easier - if anyone has any others, please let me know.

  1. Redo after an Undo

  2. Press and hold the Undo button - a Redo option will popup.

  3. Re-centre the map

  4. Shake your iPhone - it will re-centre on the selected topic and display the map name.

  5. Keyboard Shortcuts

  6. When entering text into a topic, hit RETURN three times to create a new sibling topic. Hit SPACE three times to create a new child topic. Do this in the middle of some text to split the topic at that point. Hit BACKSPACE three times in an empty topic to delete it (and edit the parent.) See here for more details.

  7. Copy/Paste text to/from other apps

  8. Copy a branch then paste it into an email to get an indented text outline. Copy some lines of text from an email and paste ONTO a topic to get each line text turned into a child topic.

  9. Merge Topics

  10. Press and hold a topic for 1 second. Drag and drop it onto another topic. Select Merge to append the dragged topic text onto the end of the target topic. Works with branches too!

  11. Create a new map ‘based upon’ an existing map or the clipboard

  12. As title - a great way to break large maps up into more manageable chunks - or create ‘template maps’. Good for creating new maps based upon copied information from other apps - see here for more details.

  1. Drag/Drop Delete

  2. Press then hold a topic for a second, drag it to a blank area of the canvas then drop it to delete.

  1. Expand branches one level at a time

  2. Good for revision/presentations. Double tap the expand/collapse icon next to a topic.

  1. Quickly Set Task Progress to 0%

  2. It can be fiddly to set the task progress value to 0% using the slider. Just tap on the ‘Progress’ text to the left of the slider and it will assign 0% progress to the current topic.
